TEITUR x GIRLS IN AIRPORTS

In 2022, the Faroese singer and songwriter Teitur collaborated with the Danish indie-jazz band Girls in Airports to create completely new music that mixed the two artists' soundscapes. The result was premiered at VEGA in Copenhagen - and has since developed into a larger collaboration and an album produced by the international producer Bruce Lampcov. The new material will be released in the autumn as a joint venture between the two artists.

The core of the music is Faroese folk songs, also called Skjaldur. As a reflection on Teitur's childhood in the Faroe Islands and youth in Denmark, the material is based on old Faroese rhymes and melodies, which he, together with Girls in Airports, has reinterpreted and taken in radically new directions, drawing on genres such as jazz, electronic and indie.

Together, Teitur and Girls in Airports have a desire to preserve and renew Faroese Skjaldur - one of the cornerstones of Faroese culture, and the collaboration puts the melodies and stories in a completely new light, which aims to make Skjaldur more accessible to new generations. The result can be experienced at two very special concerts in November, where together they visit the DR Koncerthuset in Copenhagen and Voxhall in Aarhus.

Teitur
With two Danish Grammy Awards, over 1000 concerts and 8 studio albums under his belt, Teitur has proven his talent for capturing the listener in an intense and seductive grip. In recent years, Teitur has thrown himself into new roles both as a classical composer and an electronic musician - and as a singer has entered many new contexts.

Girls in Airports
Girls in Airports is characterized by an enormous openness in relation to genre, sound and expression and is in many ways an ambassador for new jazz. Collective creativity is a large part of the group's DNA, and in recent years they have immersed themselves in artistic collaborations, which led, among other things, to the ambitious work 'Leap' composed for the Aarhus Jazz Orchestra. The band consists of saxophonist Martin Stender, pianist Mathias Holm, percussionist Victor Dybbroe and drummer Anders Vestergaard.
